Daugavpilī par mātes nogalināšanu un aprakšanu mežā šonedēļ apcietināts vīrietis, aģentūru LETA informēja Valsts policijā (VP).
11. aprīlī Daugavpils pašvaldības policija, pārbaudot informāciju par bezvēsts pazudušu 1973. gadā dzimušu sievieti, ieradās viņas dzīvesvietā Daugavpilī. Ierodoties norādītajā adresē, sieviete netika sastapta.
Vienlaikus darbinieku uzmanību piesaistīja sievietes dēla uzvedība, kas radīja aizdomas, par ko informēta VP. Notikuma vietā ieradās VP amatpersonas, kas pārņēma turpmāko procesuālo darbību veikšanu.
Veicot rūpīgu notikuma vietas apskati, likumsargi konstatēja asins pēdas mājoklī, uz cirvja un ķerras. Tāpat mājokļa teritorijā tika konstatēta ugunskura vieta, kurā dedzinātas sievietes drēbes.
Sarunas laikā ar policijas darbiniekiem 1996. gadā dzimušais vīrietis vairākkārt mainīja liecības par savas mātes atrašanās vietu. Uz aizdomu pamata likumsargi notikuma vietā aizturēja 1996. gadā dzimušo vīrieti.

VP Latgales reģiona pārvaldes Dienvidlatgales Izmeklēšanas nodaļas amatpersonas lūdza tiesai piemērot 1996. gadā dzimušajam vīrietim drošības līdzekli, kas saistīts ar brīvības atņemšanu. 13. aprīlī viņam kā drošības līdzeklis piemērots apcietinājums.
Saistībā ar šo noziedzīgo nodarījumu ir sākts kriminālprocess pēc Krimināllikuma 116. panta, proti, par citas personas tīšu prettiesisku nonāvēšanu. Par šāda noziegumu paredzēts sods ar mūža ieslodzījumu vai brīvības atņemšanu uz laiku no pieciem līdz 20 gadiem un ar probācijas uzraudzību uz laiku līdz trim gadiem
